The Skilled Independent Visa (subclass 189) is a permanent residency visa for skilled workers who are not sponsored by an employer, family member, or nominated by a state or territory government. It allows individuals with skills in demand in Australia to live and work anywhere in the country.
Points-tested stream
This is the most common stream for workers who meet the points test and have the skills needed by the Australian labor market.
Eligibility Requirements
- Occupation: You must have an occupation listed on the relevant Skilled Occupation List.
- Skills Assessment: You must have a skills assessment for your occupation from the relevant assessing authority.
- Invitation: You must be invited to apply for the visa after submitting an Expression of Interest (EOI) in SkillSelect.
- Points Test: You must satisfy the points test to gain enough points for the invitation.
