The Student visa allows you to live in Australia while participating in an eligible course of study.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Application: You can either be inside or outside Australia.
  • Enrollment: You must be enrolled in an eligible course of study in Australia.
  • Health Insurance: You must hold valid Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) or qualify for an exemption.
  • Age Requirement: Be at least 6 years old.
  • Welfare Arrangements: If you are under 18, you must prove appropriate welfare arrangements are in place.
  • Visa Status (if in Australia): Hold an eligible substantive visa.

What You Can Do

  • Study: Participate in an approved course of study in Australia.
  • Travel: Enter and leave Australia as needed.
  • Work: 
    • Work up to 48 hours per fortnight while your course is in session.
    • Unlimited work hours are allowed for students pursuing a master’s by research or a doctoral degree, as well as their dependents.
    • If you have a partner, they are also eligible to work. Their work hours depend on your selected course of study.
